Do Muslims worship prophet Muhammad?

That claim is very widespread but let’s see if it is really truthful but before that we need to differentiate between two things:

  • If Islam gives any divinity to prophet Muhammad pbuh or gave any divine attributes
  • How Islam sees prophet Muhammad pbuh compared to other prophets

As for the first point : If Islam gives any divinity to prophet Muhammad pbuh or given any divine attributes The answer is simply: No, and the evidence behind this answer are as follows:

  • The Quran mentions that he is no more than a prophet:

(Muḥammad is no more than a messenger; other messengers have gone before him. If he were to die or to be killed, would you regress into disbelief? Those who do so will not harm Allah whatsoever. And Allah will reward those who are grateful.) Quran 3:144

  • The Quran mentions that he doesn’t know except what Allah:

(They ask you ˹O Prophet˺ regarding the Hour, “When will it be?” Say, “That knowledge is only with my Lord. He alone will reveal it when the time comes. It is too tremendous for the heavens and the earth and will only take you by surprise.” They ask you as if you had full knowledge of it. Say, “That knowledge is only with Allah, but most people do not know.”) Quran 7:187

  • The Quran mentions that he can’t protect himself:

(Say, “I have no power to benefit or protect myself, except by the Will of Allah. If I had known the unknown, I would have benefited myself enormously, and no harm would have ever touched me. I am only a warner and deliverer of good news for those who believe.”) Quran 7:188

  • The Quran mentions that he can’t grant himself beyond what Allah grants him

(And We have truly set forth every ˹kind of˺ lesson for humanity in this Quran, yet most people persist in disbelief.

They challenge ˹the Prophet˺, “We will never believe in you until you cause a spring to gush forth from the earth for us,

or until you have a garden of palm trees and vineyards, and cause rivers to flow abundantly in it,

or cause the sky to fall upon us in pieces, as you have claimed, or bring Allah and the angels before us, face to face,

or until you have a house of gold, or you ascend into heaven—and even then we will not believe in your ascension until you bring down to us a book that we can read.” Say, “Glory be to my Lord! Am I not only a human messenger?”

And nothing has prevented people from believing when guidance comes to them except their protest: “Has Allah sent a human as a messenger?”

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Had there been angels walking the earth, well settled, We would have surely sent down for them an angel from heaven as a messenger.”) Quran 17: 87-97

The Quran mentions that without Allah’s help the prophet couldn’t have stayed steadfast on hios message:

(Had We not made you steadfast, you probably would have inclined to them a little, and then We truly would have made you taste double ˹punishment˺ both in this life and after death, and you would have found no helper against Us.) Quran 17:74-75

The prophet pbuh said:

It was narrated that ‘Umar said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do not praise me as the Christians praised ‘Eesa ibn Maryam عليه السلام (Jesus son of Mary). I am no more than a slave, so say: His slave and His Messenger.”

So clearly the conclusion we can get from this As for the second point (How Islam sees prophet Muhammad pbuh compared to other prophets ) : How Islam sees prophet Muhammad pbuh compared to other prophets
